The Girl named Kate
There once lived a girl named Kate. She lived with her mother who was a widow in the town of Sylene. They were very poor.
The cheerful chirping of birds heralded a new day. Kate felt refreshed and exhilarated to be greeted by the soft rays of the morning sun. Her mother had sent her to pick a basket of strawberries.
After a short while, Kate had a basket full of strawberries. Just as she was about to leave the forest, she saw an old lady dying of hunger. Tender-hearted Kate did not hesitate to give her basket full of strawberries to the old lady. The woman was very grateful and thanked her profusely. In return for her kindness, the woman gave Kate a vase. When Kate asked her what was so special about the ordinary-looking vase, the woman said that it was magical. It could grant wishes for kind-hearted people. Then before she went away, she said thank you once again. Kate went home with the vase still feeling confused.
When Kate reached home, she recounted what happened to her mother. Then she took out the vase and made a wish for food to test if the vase was really magical.
In a blink of an eye, a great variety of delicious food that she had not seen before appeared in front of her eyes! Kate and her mother were dumbfounded by what they saw. They ate the food heartily and continued using the vase. From that day onwards, they lived happily ever after.
