My family had been Permanent Resident for 5 years and we finally became Singapore citizens in 1999. The two primary reasons why my parents want to immigrate to Singapore were because of the economic stability and a more conducive learning environment for me and my brother. The day my family got our pink ICs and passports was at a Community Club in Chinatown. I couldn’t exactly remember the details. I remember we were waiting for our turn to go up stage to get our certificates and passports. Before that, we have to sing the National Anthem and recite the pledge. The feeling was weird and I remembered I was very nervous as we needed to take turns to go up stage to collect our passports and certificates.
