Fantasy Island, now defunct, was a water theme park situated in Sentosa, where both the young and the young-at-heart (a.k.a. parents) would go to soak up the sun and enjoy the thrilling rides. I remember being all excited as a 6-year-old kid, and I was literally running all over Fantasy Island with my eyes wide open with awe and anticipation.

The most memorable ride I went on was Double Trouble, where my sister and I hurtled down a winding flowing chute on a tandem rubber dingy shaped in the figure of an 8. The reason I remember this ride so much is because I became terribly bruised and sore after bumping against the sides of the chute, and was in pain for a few days after that. However, the gigantic enormous splash I made into the big pool at the end of the ride was worth all the pain I endured. Furthermore, laughing and screaming with my sister down the entire ride made it all the more fun and enjoyable.

I regret not trying one ride though, the Subarashi, as I was too scared to lie prostrate on a rubber mat and hurtle headfirst down a long steep slope. There was a little bump in the slope in the middle of the ride, and that was where the thrill seekers would fly up into the air and scream with delight.

Now that Fantasy Island is gone, we can still enjoy water rides and lots of fun at Wild Wild Wet, yet another water theme park at NTUC Downtown East, Pasir Ris.
