All 9 of us brothers and sisters each had a Chung Khiaw Bank Children's Savings Account, together with an animal-design bronze coin bank. When Mother asked which design I wanted, I chose the Camel - and I kept it till this day. I was probably in primary 3, about 40 years ago, and no, I didn't know why I chose the Camel. My siblings aren't as sentimental as me and could have long misplaced theirs. I remember the sister before me had the Rhino and the brother after me had the Squirrel. Freebies - like these miniatures of the real thing - were given for every account opened. The lock to a small door at the bottom of my Camel is warped - because at one point in time I was trying to pry it open to get some advance of my savings. The lock refused to give way, although it became dented. Thank God Mother and Papa didn't find out. Credit to my parents' inculcation of the savings habit, I am now more of a saver than a spender. Thank you Mother, thanks Papa.
