This was Changi Beach in 1988. The above shows partially a round
sandpit. They had a few of this along the beach. I think the purpose
was for sitting or resting on the edge after a long walk. Kids like us
at that time like to play in it.
This was why we liked to go there so much on a sunday afternoon.
They had a big playground over there. We would pester our father so
much that he would brought us there from Tampines Bus Interchange.
It was much more fun than the neighbourhood playground. Things were
not confined in a small area. They had things like the bridge at one
place and the swing in another area all spread out within sight. We
would hogged onto the swing and after a while had to run some distance
just to play the slide. I guess that was how they made us kids tired
and satisfied.
See how gigantic the swing was compared to us. It had two rubber
tires connected to the long hanging metal chains. Initially we often
had a hard time getting onto the tires. It was fun and challenging to
get in and not fall off since our weight was on one side. In the
picture above you could see us balancing it by each climbing in from
both sides at the same time. After getting in our short legs would fit
nicely in the tires, but they couldnt reach the ground. We would need
another person to push us.
A stationary wooden horse!
How we kids could have so much fun simply mounting on it and imagined riding and moving it.
An interesting three lane slide. Irregardless of what it was made
of, we just liked to get our bums down. Metal slide could get really
hot and burning.
Most playgrounds would have a house like this as the theme.
Ideal for playing catching after we had enough of climbing it.
The playground had been demolished a long time back.
It was there and will always be there in our memories.
