These plates were popular during the coffeeshop heydays in the 60s and 70s. Customers could be seen eating half-boiled eggs from them, or cooling off hot beverages by pouring them into these plates, and when sufficiently cooled, sipping the beverage from the rim. My late father, a coffeeshop proprietor from the 50s - 70s, had passed these down to me. Many times when I went down to help out at the coffeeshop, he would designate washing duty to me, and one of it was to wash these plates. He didn't just gave me plates, he handed down platefuls of fond memories.
