While not a typical hobby in Singapore, stone painting is a craft that has been slowly gathering interest with classes held in Community Centres and Clubs. However, while the art seems deceptively simple, it involves amazing dexterity, control and concentration. I would know – my only attempt, with my mother’s assistance - resulted in a stiff looking rabbit with frighteningly huge eyes (the outcome of my inexperienced brush).
Painted stones make great paperweights and innovative gifts. But, the biggest benefit is that, if done with the appropriate materials, the paintings are capable of lasting a lifetime or more. This means that generations of unfortunate people could have the dubious honour of viewing the horror of my creation.
