In Singapore the annual Christmas light up along Orchard Road is an event that I look forward to. Its one of the few times where Singapore lights up and the area gets a festive atmosphere. Its now in its 24th year, but of course it hasn’t always been such a grand affair. My earliest memory of Orchard Road is going there with my father one year where there was a giant inflatable Santa Claus. To give you an idea of how big Santa Claus was, even in my father’s arms I could only reach the top of his boots. Later that night the giant Santa Claus fell over, so that was when I was able to get a better glimpse of him. Nowadays my family doesn’t make the time to slowly take in the lights, it’s just a quick glance through the car windows as my father drives through Orchard Road.
