My pastime was swimming in the swamp with my sibling, helping out on my parent's farm and inventing new games with my friends. I lived in Lim Chu Kang since i was born, it was my favourite place with endless supply of fruits, sea food, vegetables and fun.
Everyday was a brand new day of fun. Running bare footed around the
farm, climbing up the trees in search of fruits or just to get away
from angry parents. We had plenty to do. Parents taught us what we
needed to know then; stay away from the swamp , do not play with fire,
do not cycle on the main road and be safe always.
we were full of energy! We splashed each other in the swamp almost everyday, dodging dead carcasses floating down the swamp. after the swim, we would cycle for hours ,occassionally on the main road to get to the ice cream store.
we abhor helping out in the farm. under the hot sun and getting our hands and clothes dirty. we loved to wait under the durian tree and collect the fallen fruit. We had great childhood. Not many people believed we stayed at kampong . it's okay with us because you cannot lie about such wonderful memories. i am proud to say that i was a kampong kid!
