My very first clubbing experience was to Zouk, the popular club at 17 Jiak Kim Street. Me being the Singaporean ever ready for good deals, I went on a Wednesday night – ladies night, where all ladies get to enter for free.
I was rather apprehensive at first, having heard the age-old horror stories of fights breaking out in clubs and how people got into fights when they were drunk. However, the night turned out to be rather uneventful, which was good thing. My friends and I had a mighty fun time following the actions to retro songs blasting in Zouk’s main dance hall. Everyone around us was just letting their hair down and having a blast of a time. The people standing on the podium were really well-versed in the actions, and I was following their lead all through the night. My favourite song has definitely got to be Love in the First Degree, by Bananarama.
That was the first of my many visits to Zouk on Mambo Jumbo Nights.
