Although this virtual pet toy achieved incredible popularity in Japan, its arrival in Singapore was not as spectacular. In 1997, the novelty of the Tamagotchi was quickly overshadowed by another similar toy, Digimon. However, the Tamagotchi’s rather uninteresting functions such as, feeding and playing, were unceremoniously overshadowed by the excitement that battling Digimon could offer on the toys’ similarly tiny LCD screens.
