In SMU, freshmen are also known as freshies and all freshies have a particular look ('blur' looking), so seniors will have the tendency to pay more attention to freshies, especially if you have a unique sense of style. We did not have the problem in secondary school and primary school because all students wore the same thing and there is little variety to look at.
Also, what makes SMU different from other local universities is the unique pedagogy SMU adopts which emphasises on class participation and interactions with the professors. These comprise a high percentage in our grade. Thus, this is important for the professors to remember your face and we need to make nametags to identify ourselves.
In early August, a few weeks before school starts, freshmen have to attend a 3 days 2 nights camp at Changi. It was a very unique and fun experience. I made a few firm friends from this camp and learnt a lot of interesting activities which includes wooden car building and kayaking. This is probably the most interesting and most enjoyable camp I ever attend.
