This is one of the oldest shopping complex in Singapore - completed around 1973. I remembered I was studing in Primary 6 at the now defunct primary school behind this shopping centre. It has a few escalators, and these being new to the community, I remembered witnessing many elderly folks falling down when they tried to get onto it. It was one of the very popular shopping malls in the seventies. Then in the eighties, the new shopping belt of Orchard Road lured away lots of shoppers. With the contruction of the NE MRT line (2000) affecting traffic flow to this area, business in this shopping mall and the neighbouring malls were greatly affected. Things took a turn for the better in 2005 when the NE MRT line went into operations. This building will always remind me of the fond memories I have had when I was young.
