The air was thick with girly excitement. My two elder sisters had just begun work and had started to get their monthly salaries. One of the first things they indulged in was Skincare - by Shiseido. I remember the tubs of cold cream, massage cream, day cream and night cream, and the bottles of jewel-coloured lotions. Cotton wool and tissue was all over the place. You've got to fold the tissue this way and then that way over your fingers before you tissue off the excess cream. Can you feel the warm glow to your skin after the 7-step massage technique? Giggles abound. They even gave Mother a 'facial'. I kept some of the items of those days, viz. 2 newsletters (1966 and 1968), a loose powder container (the square, paper one - cute!) and a cleansing cream jar. I had thrown out a glazed glass jar for night cream several years ago and regret to this day. My late mother had been refilling and using the square loose powder container right till the last days before her illness. I can still see the group of girls in front of the large teak-bound mirror, surrounded by an assortment of Shiseido skincare products.
