In the past, we all had used old Singapore money. Compared to the present, there were once $1 and $20 dollar notes then. I remember hearing from my grandmother about the conflict that came with the $20 dollar notes. She once said that people were often confused over the $10 and $20 dollar notes due to the colour of the notes that were about the same. Thus, many consumers got tricked of their money as they usually paid $20 to the shop keeper. However, due to the misinterpretation, many shop keepers saw it as $10 and thus paid less change to the consumers. The resulted in huge disapproval and anger and in the end, most of the $20 dollar notes were burnt and destroyed. The remaining $20 dollar notes were kept mainly by people who wanted to keep them as souvenirs. However, from that day on, no $20 dollar note could be used again, as the bank repaid two $10 dollar notes for every $20 dollar note given to them to be destroyed. The $1 dollar note still exists and still can be used again. I, personally have collected about fifty $1 dollar notes to date and will still be collecting more. I will never forget the story my grandmother told me.
