My dad defended Singapore but in Changi as a Prisoner of War, he saw much cruelty and suffering and death under the Japanese.
Dad painted to keep his sanity, and he had a good sense of humor. This painting draws on his past experiences fo weddings, his current situation, and what he could imagine many of his mates doing in the future.
For the younger people, at weddings it was traditional to throw rice. Now this is something that was in very short supply in Changi. I can imagine dad drawing this and then chuckling to himself and as he shared it with others, hopefully they could see the funny side of things also and last at least another day.
Most of dad's paintings in Changi show well fed, happy, health, well clothed POW's, the truth could not be any further away. His 300 paintings are now at www.changipowart.com for your enjoyment, please tell your friends also.
