My hero is a person who I respected the most, he is my Grandpa. I had learnt a lot from him. So, what had I benefit from them? My standard of Chinese is just one example.
There were really a lot of memories that I’d with Grandpa, but I remembered not much from them.
On one normal day, I was walking on path to school, someone shouted my name, I turned back and he was no other than Grandpa. It was then I found out that I’d forgotten my file at home. I thanked Grandpa for his patience to me for running to deliver it to me.
Another day after school, I’d searched the side gate of the school, I couldn’t find Grandpa. I walked out from the main gate, not even worried about Grandpa; home was straight to be my destination.
Hurray, it is home, I thought. Grandpa should be in, that must be the fact. I knocked on the door twice; Grandma looked out the window, wondered where’s Grandpa. I uttered the truth, I didn’t saw Grandpa.
In a wink of an eye, Grandpa was standing beside me; of course, he gave me a scolding for not waiting him. I apologized and went rushing into the house.
A day, Grandpa and Grandma went back to China, their homeland for a month or so – for the first time. My parents were all out in the society earning a living for all in the family.
Eventually, I’d learnt to be independent during their stay in China. And that’s why I can always fix my problem myself while my sister couldn’t fix.
A Chinese proverb is known as, ‘life is as the same as drama’. In dramas, there will always be bad and good people. Dignity was in the ‘Package’ too.
A woman in the maternal side of my family, known as ‘second grandma’ keeps insulting Singapore with my aunt at my house. I was young then, not knowing what was happening, sitting down doing my work. My Father couldn’t stand them, came out of the room and ‘shot’ them. My Grandpa immediately chased the ‘second grandma’ out of the house just upon hearing her inappropriate remarks on Singapore.
Just few months ago, they did the same thing at my house; I make it the point that no matter who they are, insulting the country you’re living in is the most inappropriate thing to do.
For these, I’d learnt to love and protect Singapore.
You might be awaiting the fact that how my Grandpa trained and taught me the walk so far on the path, heading for a brighter future.
‘Lian He ZaoBao’- a daily-published Chinese newspaper was introduced to me because of my curiosity and once again, Grandpa’s patience in me.
When Grandpa found out my ability of reading and recognising most of the Chinese words in the newspaper, he turned on the Television for me to listen to the newscaster’s reading. Indeed, I’d benefited much from it.
Good matters always disappeared earlier and faster than the bad matters. Grandpa and Grandma both went back to China because of Grandpa’s illness- the last stage of stomach cancer; on 12th March 2005, a
Saturday (the day when my school conducted a sports carnival).
Grandpa heeded the advice the doctors in China gave him- to cut off parts of his stomach affected by the tumor and the cancer cells.
My results won me the ‘Edusave Awards’ in Primary Two, Four and Five. Grandpa has been always encouraging me to get the award, strive higher year by year.
Grandpa and I were both separated by lands, oceans and seas……
Grandma caught herself with stroke after Grandpa’s surgery as she has been forgetting to take her medicine-being worried and afraid that Grandpa would leave her.
My mother came home very late on 25th June 2008, her eyes were red. I burst into tears when she revealed the reason she cried.
The reason was that……Grandpa had passed away.
Hello there, Grandpa. Thank you for your love and patience for me, I will strive higher and higher, achieve more awards. You’ll always stay in my heart; you must join me in the PSLE Certificate- Giving Ceremony! I love you forever!
