My Hero
“Happy Birthday, grandma!” my grandma is in her seventies this year. Unlike other typical grandmothers who never fail to dye their hair when it turns white, my grandma loves her natural hair colour. She has thin eyebrows, tiny eyes, rosy cheeks and wrinkles on her face. She is a lovable with a large circle of friends whom have known one another for a couple of years. She is also well-liked by her neighbours as she shares her recipes of sumptuous food with. Grandma never fails to get up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for the entire family. The aroma of the delicious food is what wakes us up from our slumber. She practises “Taiji” every morning with the other grandmothers while going for a walk in the park with my grandpa in the afternoon. Our entire family comes together every year for the reunion dinner. Everyone will drink the delicious shark’s fin soup and laugh out loud the jokes she says.
My grandma has been taking care of me since the day I was born. She takes care of all my meals and tries her very best to give me what I want. There was a time when she secretly bought sweets for me without my parents knowing. She brought them to my nursery classes. It was also her who spent hours teaching me how to ride a bicycle. I fell down numerously at first but soon under her patient coaching, I got the hang of it. I even rode it to my friends and tell them proudly that my grandma taught me to ride it.
When I was little, I fell from the slide of the playground and I was in great pain as my leg bled profusely. I went back home crying and grandma asked me what happened before applying medicine on the wound and told me that I’m a boy and should not cry.
There was once when I had a high fever. I felt very cold and my head felt very heavy. Grandma took an extra blanket and gave it to me. Then, was worried about me and woke up in the night whenever i coughed and asked my father if I was fed my medicine or not. She also kept reminding me to put the reusable cold pack on my forehead. Thanks to her excellent care, I finally recovered. That year, during her birthday, I got a bouquet of lilies for her as I know they are her favourite flowers. Grandma smiled sweetly at me.
I was also afraid of creepy-crawlies so I would run around frantically whenever a beetle, bee, moth or fruitfly come flying to me. I was watching a television program one evening when two gigantic wasps came flying in through my house window. I ran into the kitchen where my grandma was eating her dinner and she told me to just use the broom and kill them. I told her to show me and she took the broom and smack it at the wasp in the air, dragging it to the floor and then killing it by hitting it continuously. Grandma then wanted to kill the other one too. I told grandma to let me try. I did the same way and killed the other one too. My hero, my grandmother has ever since helped cure me of my phobia. Besides these, my grandma has also done a lot of heroic acts to help others. Grandma will be my hero for life!
