Title: My Hero
Everyone has a hero in their lives. That includes me. SOmeone who teaches me how to play basketball, play piano, how to manage my studies and the way of life. He is my brother, Li Ling Yi. He is sixteen this year, studying in Queensway Secondary School (QSS) , Secondary One. Although he is only sixteen, he is very mature and knows a lot of things which i do not know. He has the determination to excel even though his studies are not very good. FOr example, when he decides to do something, whatever diffculty it comes with, he will overcome them.
In other people's eyes, he likes to bully me as he likes to ask me to run errans for him. But in fact, he is very nice to me and is concerned about me. If i am not free, he will not ask me to do things and when i am outside with my friends, he willremind me to take my lunch, take care of myself and go back home early. If i was alone at home, he will go home immediately as he is afraid that i will be kidnapped.
I remember that when i was in Primary Two in China, i was playing chap-teh with my friends during a break. Suddenly a boy from Primary Four came and snatched our chap-teh and kicked it onto the roof. I was sad and told my brother when i went home. The next day, he brought his friends and went to look fro the boy. He punched the boy and brought him in front of me and asked him to apologise to me. Iwas so touched and felt that he was very breave. In the end, he got scolded by my parents and teachers.
Not long after, he came to Singapore fro studies. I was so sad at that time but he consoled me and told my mother that in a year's time, I must be in Singapore also.
During the time that i was alone in China, i was lonely and bored. Although i still had friends in school, nobody chatted with me or played with me. I could do nothing but wait. Finally in the year 2002, i arrived in Singapore. The first day i came to Singapore, i cried, because i was so happy yo see him again. But i was shocked. He became very fat like a pig. Then i would make fun of him by calling him "fat pig" while he would call me "shorty" . We played togehter, watched television programmes together, slept togehter (well, when we were yough only) and so on...
Soon, we started school. I was in Primary one and he was in Primary Two. We werw in different sessions. Mine was the afternoon session while his was in the morning, so we could only see each other in the evening.
I remember at that same time, my grandfather in China died. At first, when we heard the news, we though that the adults were only joking but is was true. A few days later, we flew back to China. I cried profusely when i saw the body of my grandfather, so did my brother. But he told me something, " Everyone will die, depending on time. From the day we were born, we are getting nearer to death in each second. When we were born, every one was happy and smiled to welcome us to this world but when people die, why cant't we just smile to bid farewell to them in our hearts? If we tear, they will be worried for us. SInce they are already dead, why can't we let them rest in peace? Show them not to worry about us and rest in peace" . After hearing that, it was the first time i feltthat he was so matured and felt that thinking positive is better than being a negative thinker. He often told me that even is the chances are slim, I should try my best. If i am not successful, at least I know that i have tried my best and i will not have any regrets.
Now that we have grown up, i want to thank him for teaching me so many things. I also want to tell him that I have grown up, he does not have to worry about me and that i will take acre of myself. You had better find your Miss Right and be happy always! My dear brother.
