                                                           My Hero

My hero is not like those superheroes you see in comic books or watch on television. He is not like batman, superman or any others with powers. He is someone whom I see everyday and taught me many things. He taught me many things, hobbies and skills which help me till today.

He taught me hobbies like making models, roller blading and learning things by watching television documentaries, by surfing the internet using search engines like my favourite, Yahoo or by reading books. He taught me to make models when I was eleven when he brought my brothers and I to a model shop called ‘Tamiya’ which was huge. It contained models of battleships like the famous World War 2 Japanese ship the ‘Yamato’ to tanks like the German ‘Panther’, ‘Leopard’, ‘Tiger’ and an American tank ‘Abraham’. My father bought me a German ‘Leopard 2’ and a fighter plane, the F117a-NightHwak which is a stealth bomber then. It took me about a week to finish the F117a-NightHwak and about two weeks to complete the ‘Leopard 2’.It took me longer to complete it as it had more parts and more steps. He taught me to paint the parts first before fixing them as it was easier and he taught me how to clean the paintbrushes needed to paint the models properly. If he did not taught me, the paintbrushes would have become stiff and spoiled which I could not use to paint the models anymore.

My hero also taught me how to roller blade when I was ten years of age. He brought his church friends, my brothers and I to ‘Carrefour’ at Suntec City. His church friends already know how to roller blade and were there to buy new ones and some protection pads. I thought that the protection pads were just hot and tight but I learnt that they were important the hard way when after I learnt how to blade, I took them off and suddenly fell when going up a steep slope and had an abrasion on my knee.

He also taught me how to learn things not found in my textbooks but in other books. I learnt it out of irritation sadly when he frequently asks my brothers and I questions like “How is the richest man on Earth?”, “What is the name of our galaxy?”, “What is the main problem the Earth is facing now?” I soon hated being ‘dumb’ so I started to have an interest in some documentaries, surfing the internet and reading very thick books. After learning many things, I was known by my teachers as a ‘scientist’ in class. I also have a liking in history, Greek mythology and the universe. I strike back and ask my hero questions, some of which he could not answer.

Can you guess who my hero is? Here are some hints, he is older than me by about twenty-eight years, he gives me a daily allowance and he sends me to school in his car. He is none other than my father.
