My personal hero is my kind paternal grandmother. She was born in nineteen thirty-eight and had to go through world war two in nineteen forty-two. She was married with my grandfather after Second World War. She also gave birth to five children. Three of her children were males while the other were females. Feeding, teaching and making her children happy were hard. Her father died when she was very young. Her elder brother also died at a young age. Although she had gone through many emotional setbacks, she managed to be strong and continued doing jobs. She had to wash people clothings house by house and even had to be a cleaner. She started working when she was about 16 years old. She went out early and came back late everyday. Fortunately, her children were very obedient and help her with chores. All of her children went to university because of her husband and her. Her hardship was worth it after all.

Now, she lives comfortably with her family and she feels happy about it even though she is old and sometimes both of her legs are painful as she hurt her both of her legs when she was working in the past.  She had never attended any school before but she knows how to speak mandarin and a bit malay. She looks after the house and cooks for her family. Last time, I used to go to her house and every night, my father would fetch my sister and me back home. She now sometimes comes to my house during the day by bus and going home by bus too. She now also takes care of my sister and me.

Her hope now is to wish that her family would be safe and be rich in the near future. She has no more wishes as she is getting old.

My aunt once told me that when my aunt had chicken pox, my grandmother take care of her until she fully recover from my aunt's illness. There was even one time when I had high fever, my grandmother took leave from her job and also took care of me. My aunt also told me my grandmother saved me. It all started when my whole family was eating during dinner time. I was eating the body of a fish. I removed all the bone in the fish before eating it up. While I was eating the fish, I accidentally swallowed a small fish bone. I immediately tapped my grandmother hand. She looked at me. I then pointed my mouth. She immediately understood my meaning. She hit my back to force the bone in my throat to come out. Finally, the bone came out. I turned my face towards her and said thank you in mandarin a lot of times. She just smiled back at me. My family was very proud of her for saving my life. I will forever be gratitude towards her. I wish she would be happy and live until I go to university.
