It never came across my mind to think who my hero is in reality. Every time the word ‘hero’ is mentioned, the first thing that comes to my mind is either Spiderman or Batman or Superman, which are just fictional superheroes.
Consciously or sub-consciously, I know that I have always looked up on somebody. He is none other than my one and only father. Why is he my hero? The main reason is that he has influenced and inspired me in many different ways.
He constantly develops his mental, physical and spiritual capability. Now, at the age of 43 years old, he is taking his masters degree. He will go to evening classes on alternate weeks. I really admire him. He is active and participates in triathlons which require him to compete in event that includes swimming, cycling and running simultaneously. He had also cycled throughout the whole of peninsula Malaysia. He was a competitive bodybuilder in his younger days too which I saw through his photographs. He has a whole full of trophies, medals and certificate.
He is also capable is balancing his work, education and family. He spends more than 10 hours everyday, sometimes including weekends, in front of his never ending paper work and computer. Though he is always busy with his work and school, he never neglects his family. He would find time to bring his family out during weekends even for a short time.
He is also more than willing to offer a lending hand to others who need help including myself. Despite being tired after he comes home, he is always there to help me in my studies and school works. He has been guiding me since I was young. In times of hardship, he will be the one to give me words of encouragement. Currently, my life is like a rollercoaster. There are many times when I go through cycles of feeling happy and sad. He may not really know and understand the problems that I faced as a teenager but his little support and encouragements never fail to perk me up. His parents, brothers and sister often approach him when help is needed.
He has a “never say die attitude”. He never lets anything get in his way when he wants to do something.
When I grow up, I wish to be like my dad if not better than him. With him by my side, I am sure he will develop me to my best capability. He will definitely not let me down in time of needs. My hero will always save me when I am in trouble, as he has shown many times. My dad will always be my first and last hero!
