Many people have heroes,some may be fictional while some can be fiction for me,my hero comes from a long time ago in Greece in the state of sparta.He was known as King Leonidas,he was the seventeen king in the line and he was one of the sons of King Anaxandridas and was one of the kingdom's greatest warrior,he was born in 540BC and he fought in the war with three hundred of his strongest warrior and set off to defend his country and died for his country.
Why is he my hero?Beacuse when Persian invaded Greece,the messenger travel from the shore of the beach they landed on and went to sparta and told King Leonidas that the persian had such big army that when they walk the Sparta could feel the ground shaking and when they drink they would dry the river faster than any living creature would and told King Leonidas to surrender but instead of surrenderring the King said that he will fight for his land and his people and kill the messenger and dump his body down a big hole.
He then went to the orcale and ask for the outcome of the battle and this is what the orcale said"Hear your fate, O dwellers in Sparta of the wide spaces; Either your famed, great town must be sacked by Perseus' sons, Or, if that be not, the whole land of Lacedaemon Shall mourn the death of a king of the house of Heracles, For not the strength of lions or of bulls shall hold him, Strength against strength; for he has the power of Zeus, And will not be checked till one of these two he has consumed."Instead of heeding the advice the orcale had given he,together with his three hundred bravest warrior when on a quest to protect sparta at all cost even if it means sarcificing oneself.
At the first two days,they will using formations to defend the spot known as the pass of Thermopylae.The Persian couldn't get pass the defend made by the spartan and the spartan were finally deafeated in the battle as the number of enemy they are against are too many and so the spartans died in glory.The story tells us that King Leonidas fought hard to defend his country and he is a role example for all boys in Singapore that one should fight for his country and not run away and hide somewhere and one should always protect his counrty to the very end and that is why King Leonidas of sparta was my hero....
