My Hero
My heroes are the doctors, without the doctors we won’t live healthily. To be a doctor one must be as hard working as an ant and as wise as Solomon. You can’t study once in a blue moon.
When anybody feels run-down he or she can consult a doctor. The doctor can cure them as fast as a cheetah. There are many different types of doctors, surgeon, dentist, consultant, general practitioner, gynecologist, psychiatrist, vet, pediatrician and orthopedic. A surgeon is a doctor who does operations in an operation theatre. A consultant is a doctor at a hospital who knows a lot about a particular area of medicines. A dentist is a doctor who treats people’s teeth. A general practitioner is a doctor who treats all kinds of patients when they first become ill, and sends them to special doctors in hospitals if they have serious illness. A gynecologist is a doctor who studies and treats medical conditions that affects women. A vet is a doctor who is trained to give medical care and treatment for sick animals. A pediatrician is a doctor who deals with children. An orthopedics is a doctor who is relating to the medical treatment of problems that affect people bones and muscles.
During the period of SARS in 2004, many people were worried of the SARS infection. For prevention, many people wore face masks and checked their body temperatures everyday. All the SARS patients were treated at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Even schools took the body temperatures of all students everyday. All the confirmed SARS patients were quarantined in the hospital. There was a doctor named Dr Chao, he contacted all these SARS patients and finally he was infected with the SARS syndrome. Dr Chao also quarantined himself from his family. The SARS syndrome is getting worst and finally he died in the hospital. All the SARS victims who died of this syndrome were cremated. This is to prevent the SARS virus from spreading into the environment.
During SARS epidemic, everybody were very cautious about personal hygiene. There is one incident in the public bus, when a passenger coughed. Everybody in the bus stared at the victim like an alien. Therefore, if anybody started feeling unwell, they will have to stay at home. Everybody who suspected of having SARS, a home quarantine will serve by the ministry of health.
From then onwards, all Singaporeans were very cautious of cleanliness and personal hygiene. The Singapore government also took a pro-active measure to install washing basins in all the hawker centres. All Singaporeans are advised to wash their hands before and after meals. With all these countermeasures, the SARS epidemic was finally subset.
I felt that all the doctors are my heroes and heroines. They cured and saved many sick patients. I really admired all these doctors and I hope that one day when I grow up I will be able to become a doctor like them. I like to save life and cure patients same as what my heroes and heroines do.
