Lee Kuan Yew is a Singaporean of Chinese immigrant background. He was the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore from 1959 to 1990.He has remained one of the most influential political figures in the South-East Asian region. Under the administration of Singapore's second Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong, he served as Senior Minister. He currently holds the self-created post of Minister Mentor under his son Lee Hsien Long, who became the nation's third Prime Minister on August 12,2004.
Lee Kuan Yew led Singapore to independence and served as its first Prime Minister. He was regularly re-elected from 1959 until he stepped down in 1990. Lee Kuan Yew was educated in England, and under his guidance Singapore became a financial and industrial powerhouse despite a lack of abundant natural resources. Lee Kuan Yew ruled with ultimate authority , and his zeal for law and order was legendary. In 1990 he stepped down and was succeeded by Goh Chok Tong as Prime Minister.
Lee Kuan Yew was the Secretary General of the People’s Action Party. He worked hard to keep a one-party system and successfully transformed Singapore from a third world country to a prosperous First World country.As you can see, Lee Kuan Yew is a very important person to us. He has helped us in many ways and tried to keep Singapore safe from danger or threat. He protects Singapore like a gem and I think that we should too. We should all start by helping each other, keeping Singapore clean and green, unite with one another and we should always remember to be polite to everybody so that other people from other countries can know how great Singapore is. The most important thing we must remember is to say the national pledge sincerely with all our heart and mean it.
