My Hero

When you first mention the word ‘hero’ to someone, majority always cry out names like ‘Superman!’ ‘Batman!’ However, how many times do you get the response ‘My loving mother’ or ‘my dedicated teacher’?

Have you ever watched the movie ‘School Of Life?’ It’s a story about a new History teacher, Mr. Michael D'Angelo otherwise known as Mr. D. Being young, funny, and having unconventional methods of teaching, his uncanny ability to connect with his students quickly wins the hearts of both the students and teachers. To these students, Mr. D may be their hero, their role-model.

I spent most of my time in school. So the hero I am going to talk about is about a teacher too. My parents definetely come first. However, I wouldn’t call them my hero. They are my life. I am a secondary school student and the teacher I would be talking about is my Tamil teacher Mr. Ramar. (Yes, I am Indian).

I still remember my first time entering his class in secondary one. He entertained us with stories. Typical you may say. But as I conclude him as my hero, I should mention his unique qualities that distinguishes him from the rest of the teachers in my school right?

Teachers naturally treat us students as…well…students! Some young teachers like Mr. D sometimes treat students as their friends. My teacher however is not young and thus, treats us like his CHILDREN.

Now, how many times have you heard of a teacher like that? Oh no, Mr. Ramar is not old. He is only a father. The fact that he treats us like his children totally changes the atmosphere in his classes

We never leave his lessons without having laughed once. He is a very good joker. As there is little to teach in tamil, we finish our syllabuses early. So he spents his time telling funny jokes, talking funny stories. There is ofcourse exercise papers in between. I always look forward to his lessons as we are sure to have an enjoyable and relaxed time.

Still not unique enough? Well here’s another fact, he’s psychic. Yes! Maybe its because he is a father himself and treats us like his children. But how many times are you lucky enough to get a teacher who truly understands your needs? As he has been with me through the whole 4 years of my secondary school life, it just improves his psychic abilities on me.

Students only open up their problems to a teacher they trust and feel comfortable with. Mr. Ramar is definetely a teacher I can trust. Though I naturally hesitate to tell my problems, especially to a male teacher, I see Mr. Ramar as a loving father too. Sometimes when we are leaving school together, he enquires my well-being and gives amazing advices that I am using till now.

I do not know how my hero may differ from other people’s hero’s who may have influenced a person’s life much more dramatically then how mine has; but as I mentioned before, everyone has different heroes. A lucky jacket may be embraced by a person while chucked into a cupboard by another. My hero is someone who truly has the talents of teaching and most importantly, the love for his students. Many fail to mention that and thus, he may be living without knowing the difference he has made in people’s lives; blending in with the ordinary people in this world. But here is the story of him, someone who has influenced my life, as My Hero.
