My Grandfather

My hero is my grandfather. Although I have associated with countless of people in my life, no one person could evoke feelings the way he did. Basically, nobody could ever compare to my grandfather. He may have been reflected as an ordinary and simple man, however in my eyes, he was a great person. He was the epitome of beautiful.

My grandfather never failed to encourage me through my life. Whether in school or in my personal experiences in life, he had always been there for me, through it all. His repetitive reminders that constantly nagged at me have definitely benefited me, one way or another. Always, he would boast on how he used to take school so seriously and how he loved it. He would even walk to school, covering an unimaginably long distance just so he could get educated. After he had finished school, he supported his family to earn enough money. Being the man in the family, he would work very hard, coming home late in the night, not before eleven just to ensure there would be enough for food the next day. Looking at where my family stand right now, I feel that all his hard effort had paid of. In my heart, he has always been my motivator.

My perspective of life somehow changed whenever my grandfather and had our conversations. He would always remind me how hard I have to work in future, like how he did. I am always proud of him, and always will be. Keeping in mind of his inspiring life stories he had told me, they make me strive harder every time I fail in something I do, telling me to keep my head up no matter what I do. Somehow I would feel a sense of warmth whenever I was around him, he made me feel comfortable and not many people could actually make me feel that way. His conversations were never meaningless and dull, and behind them all was a lesson to be learnt. At the end, I always feel fulfilled as he serves as guidance for me. He was my teacher.

Unlike any other, my grandfather was truly one of a kind. His personality was admirable, always putting others before himself, he was a selfless person, and because of that, he was well-liked by many. He had friends and they remained as friends till time separates them. He would always create a warm feeling whenever he was around people and his sincere heart was always an attraction. He had his ways with people, and I suppose he had touched many lives with his genuine personality – and that was what made people come back for more.

My grandfather died in 2007. He had pneumonia, having suffered for years. The constant visits to the hospital and the bags of medicines were a torment to the family. Although we suffered very much seeing him that way, I know he suffered even more. Watching him go was tough but I know that all good things must come to an end, and the end of his suffering.

Even though things are different now, I would always have him in heart. Within, I know he is still my motivator, my inspiration and my hero. He is the reason why I want to become a better person each day.
