My hero has had a mesmerizing effect on me. He has taught me what is right and what is not. He had helped me through all my times of difficulty. He is the one whom I idolize deeply in my heart for he is my hero, my beloved father.
Ever since I entered this world on the 29 of July, my father had been there for me. I simply admire his limitless confidence, knowledge and the love he had for my family and I. Though not a millionaire, my father did his best to give my brother and I what we want. He also made sure that he would have save enough money at the end of every year to bring my family on a holiday.
Tough there is no doubt that my father love me, yet he was not one who would compromise on the discipline aspect of his children. He is the disciplinarian of the family and just a scowl or a scolding finger was enough to sent shivers down my spine. I can still remember an occasion during my second year in Secondary school. Being a young and immature boy who was greatly enthusiastic about soccer, I went to play soccer in the science lab one day after school. I was caught red-handed and my dad was summoned to school. I was caned when I went home and memories of that incident remain etched in my mind till date. This memory had kept me in line.
Being first born, I was sure I got more instructions than my brother. My father tried to enlighten me on every imaginable topic. He taught me the importance of looking neat, the importance of carrying myself with confidence, and most importantly the value of perseverance. Last year, during the east zone soccer finals, my team had to pitch against Victoria School and my team was down by a goal. We tried our best and till half-time, we were still unable to catch-up with our opponent. I felt like giving up and it was my dad who pulled me aside during half-time to give me a pat on the shoulder that gave me the encouragement to go on.
My father also constantly reminds me of the importance of being kind. He feels for the less-fortunate and is an avid volunteer at the Lions home for the aged. He firmly believes in the value of each and every life and would always go all out to help others. Last year during the December holidays, my dad even brought us on a trip to Cambodia to help the less fortunate there. This experience opened my eyes to the misery and suffering of those less-fortunate and has greatly changed my perspective of life.
Without my father, I would not have been who I am today. He inspires me and he is the person who I admire greatly.
