My Beloved Father

Have you ever wondered who your hero is? A person who had made a great impact in your life as well as someone whom you greatly idolize deep down in your heart. Many people has different opinion of what makes a hero. For me personally, a hero is someone whose disappearance in this world would cause me great disappointment. That hero is none other than my beloved father.

Firstly I regard my father as my hero because of all sacrifices that he has made to me. When I was in primary school, my father was offered a chance to work overseas in a high paying job. A bright looking career was waiting for him. This was what he had dreamt of for his entire life. A chance to work overseas as an aerospace engineer. However, he gave up his dream of his as this job would mean the whole family having to migrate overseas. He was afraid that I would not be able to adapt to life overseas as I had a hard time just adjusting to me primary school life. Therefore, sad to say, he rejected the offer. Now that I am older and more matured, I figured out how big a sacrifice he had actually made for me. He gave up his lifelong dream just to let me have a more suitable environment to spend my childhood days. That was a big sacrifice.

Understanding. This is what makes him my hero. One way in which his understanding personality can be seen would be how he understands my life as a teenager now. Now as a teenager, I do encounter some problems from friendships, relationship and also studies. Studies. My father had never demanded good results from me, let alone placed any pressure on me to do well. This is totally opposite to what other parents in Singapore did to their children nowadays. Parents in Singapore expects good academic results from their child due to many reasons such as increased competition for jobs and schools. My father’s advice to me for studies is always the same yet meaningful to me. He says in a enthusiastic tone, ‘just try your best son! If you fail, pick yourself up. All I expect of you is for you to be happy.’ It may sound simple but this advice had been my motivation to excel in studies to a great extent. The motivation I get pushes me to study really hard, to get good results, to do my father proud. Besides studies alone, my father also provides a listening ear to all my problems just like what a friend usually do. Besides a fatherly figure to me, he also is a good friend of mine.

His care and concern for me. I once underwent an operation when I was about six years old. It was a throat operation. I could not remember the details vividly. However, what I did manage to recall is him staying by my bedside looking after me. Whenever I threw my tantrums when taking those horrible tasting medicine, he would bear with me patiently, trying his best to coax me into taking those medicine. Not a single time did he raise his voice at me. Now that I am much older, his care and concern for me still remains the same, never faltering at all.

Many people have different heroes ranging from superheroes to a person whom you never talked to before. For me, my hero is my father. His selfless sacrifice, understanding heart together with the everlasting love makes him my hero. Without him is like without me.
