My hero is one of my best friends, Audrey. A hero is one who has courage and compassion, one who is selfless and one who is able to sacrifice themselves when the need arises. A hero does not necessarily have to have super powers or go around saving people from distress. A hero can be an ordinary person like me and you, with extraordinary spirit. My hero, Audrey, has influenced and impacted my life in many meaningful ways. She also inspired me to think big and achieve my target for O level.
We have known each other for four years now. I can never forget the first time we met. The fond memories seem to be imprinted in my mind for eternity. The first time we met, she wore a stern expression. She gave me the impression of a tigress. Therefore, I would think twice before offending her. Also, she also seemed to be in a bad mood. However, as I got to know her better, I realized that she was actually a bubbly girl. At times, she gave me an impression that she is a five-year old girl that needs care and concern while at other times, she is like a mature person who is able to assume leadership roles. This is what makes her popular among students and even teachers.
Ever since I had known her, Audrey has inspired me to do well in my studies. This is because I lack something which can be found in her, determination. This is also what it makes for her to be my hero. There are certain aspects in her that I aim to achieve. Be it in sports or in academic, she has the determination and strong willpower to put in her best to complete the tasks assigned.
She inspired me most when she did not stop at any point to rest during the 2.4km run. In the past, I could often beat her easily as she would stop almost every round. However, after our teacher challenged us to run continuously, Audrey was determined and she succeeded.
This incident inspired me and it created a tremendous change in my thinking. In the past, I often think that consistency is the key to success. However, she made me feel that determination was more important than anything else. Without determination, even with a highly intellectual mind or with consistency, one would break down when stress level is high. People would then break down before the commencement of O levels.
Without Audrey, I would not have made any improvements in my academic grades. The improvement was not tremendous. Nevertheless, it was still a significant improvement. This little improvement in my results boosted my confidence.
Audrey is one of the heroes that motivates people silently and does not expect anything in return. I have witnessed her becoming more determined than ever. To me, it was as though I have seen a cygnet turn into a swan. I admire and respect Audrey as my hero.
