Throughout my entire life, I have not met many heroes. However, there was one that particularly stood out. Her name is Man Yi. To me, a hero need not necessarily be someone who can save me from a burning building. To me, a hero is someone who can inspire and influence my life in many ways.

My hero used to be a cry baby. She cried when she went to kindergarten, cried when she went to primary school and cried when she received her PSLE results However, once she reached secondary school, Man Yi stopped being a "water tap". In many ways, she grew up to be a strong-willed person who did not let unhappy moments affect her. Therefore, I look upon Man Yi as my role model, someone that I still have a lot to learn from. With her around, I will be inspired not to pressurize myself too hard and to take things in my stride.

Together, we grew up. Since young, Man Yi was like a big sister to me. Always concerned for me and giving in to me. She was forever making sacrifices and I was just ‘responsible’ for taking as she was giving in. Whenever I requested for something, she will try her best to meet my requests, no matter how unreasonable they were. Even when both of us took liking to a same piece of clothing, she will never hesitate to let me have it. Sometimes, I will even be ashamed of myself as I know that I can never be like her. Always giving and not asking for anything in return. Her selflessness had influenced me to consider others before myself. By growing up with her, I came to realise that Man Yi had indeed matured a lot. She was not the cry baby I used to know anyway. Now. She is my hero.

Also, Man Yi used to be a student with mediocre grades. Studying was something she hated with a passion. In the process of growing up and becoming a better person, she decided to face her fear of studying. By studying late into the wee hours of the night, Man Yi’s hard work finally paid off. She managed to achieve 14 points for her L1B5 in her O Levels last year. Her hardworking spirit is what makes me admire her and motivates me to work towards my goal.

All in all, Man Yi is someone I look upon to. She will always be the hero in my heart. Although she may not be perfect in every way, I salute her. I know I owe her a lot, but I hope we can still be close friends and the best cousins in the years to come. Until now, I am fifteen years old and Man Yi had been playing such an important role in my life all this while. She had really impacted and influenced me.

My hero is not anyone special. However, because of her unending spirit to improve herself and her selflessness towards others, she is my hero nevertheless.
