From my perspective, a hero is a person who helps those in need despite of what the needy had done to him or her in the past. In my life, there is someone that I would consider as my hero. That hero is my elder sister, Melanie. She is a tolerant and understanding person and although she is frail, she behaves like a mother bear, always taking good care of me. Therefore, we were very close as we had to take care of each other.

During my crucial year in primary school, coping with my studies was like carrying a bag full of stones. Therefore, I had to seek help from her. Even though her schedule was packed with study plans to prepare her for the GCE ‘N’ Level Examination that year, she relentlessly aided me with my subjects. As a result, her results were not ideal and barely made in to Secondary 5 but she did not blame me. Instead, she treated me to snacks for scoring well in my examination and worked even harder herself for her GCE ‘O’ Level Examination the next year. She had to resort to overworking herself. She seemed to be stuck with a time bomb, if she could not finish her revision, she would not survive. Through this incident I saw the self-sacrificing her.

Another reason for her being my hero is that she is very supportive of my actions and plans. She almost never opposes my plan and when she does, it was for my benefits. Last year, I intended to be out playing basketball a few days before my End-of-Year Examination but she foiled my plan. I blamed her as she ruined my last chance to participate in my passion. Later, I realized her intentions. It was to allow me to have more time available for revision. Moreover, she did this to prevent me from receiving any fatal or devastating injuries that may be inflicted on me incidentally. This caused me to have a different view of her, the caring her. She was like a mother, always thinking of my welfare.

The last reason that I see her as my unique hero is because she is always there to help me even after a recent argument or dispute with her. She disregard the past as she sees it as what is done cannot be changed but the future can be. Therefore, whenever I request for help from her, she will not reject me unless she has something important to attend to. When I was still a primary school student, I had a lot of disputes with her over the smallest things. Sometimes, this got as far as both of us ignoring each other for a prolonged period of time. However, this only occurred because I kept my silence around her then. Unfortunately, I got into trouble with my parents for breaking something and shockingly, she stepped up courageously and took the blame for it. This made me see the forgiving side of her.

In conclusion, my sister’s actions satisfy all the qualities a hero would possess. The qualities of heroes are plenty but I felt that those that my sister possesses are the ones of utmost importance.
