The National Heritage Badge is awarded by the National Heritage Board ( NHB ), in collaboration with the Co-Curricular Branch of the Ministry of Education to students who have shown the passion, commitment and drive to learn, conduct research and share the knowledge they have gleaned on Singapore's culture, history and belief. From 2004, it was made a compulsory proficiency badge as part of National Education for Secondary School students.
It is a badge of distinction which recognises deserving students from Uniformed Groups in Secondary Schools who have completed a heritage project.
Students have to complete a heritage project, selected from a list of proposed topics by the National Heritage Board which includes organising or planning heritage trails, research projects on heritage topics such as national monuments, guiding in museums, promotion of national symbols, IT-based heritage projects, etc.
Besides getting to know about Singapore's history and heritage, students pick up lifelong skills such as research, public speaking, creative thinking and problem-solving.
