National Day Video 2011 :
IN SEARCH OF THE SINGAPORE SPIRIT

Every year, NHB and MICA produce a National Day Video as our contribution to the National Day celebrations. The video will be broadcast during the month of August through MediaCorp TV. The videos are also duplicated into DVDs and distributed to all schools and organisations for their National Day observance ceremonies.

The theme of this year's video is the ‘Singapore Spirit' and in the style of a mini musical short film. The video is driven by 3 originally composed songs whose lyrics and tone delivers the storyline.

     The storyline revolves around a young Singaporean couple, with the husband John as the main protagonist. John's wife is pursuing an evening course and she has been tasked with a project on discovering the Singapore Spirit. John then takes an interest in his wife's project and muses on the Singapore Spirit as he goes about his daily activities.

     The video follows John through several everyday activities, such as a business meeting with colleagues of different races, helping an elderly lady with groceries, watching football with friends, etc.
     Through these ordinary and sometimes humorous scenes, John comes to see the Singapore Spirit in the little gestures of human interaction - through teamwork, helping each other, camaraderie, inter-generational bonding, etc. In the final scene, John has figured out what the Singapore Spirit is.
