Free Visits to Museums

ANNOUNCEMENT

FREE ADMISSION TO NHB MUSEUMS FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS W.E.F. 1 JUNE 2010

With effect from 1 June 2010, all students and teachers from local primary schools to tertiary institutions will be able to enjoy free admission to National Heritage Board (NHB) museums1.

This free admission is applicable only to the NHB museums' permanent galleries and not for special or blockbuster exhibitions. Only Singaporeans or Permanent Residents who are teaching or studying in Singapore schools are eligible for this free admission. For more information on the policy, please click here.

Making Museums More Accessible To Students

This new policy aims to make our museums more accessible for students. It also supports NHB's and the Ministry of Education's efforts to introduce museum visits as part of the school curriculum.

Our museums, with their wide range of exhibitions, innovative gallery interactive terminals(multi-media/IT) and educational activities provide a stimulating learning environment for students.

All our museums are also now Wi-Fi enabled and thus teachers can surf the net freely in any of our venues. This will enable teachers to conduct classes within our galleries and thus make history come alive for their students.

Termination of NHB School and Tertiary Institutions Membership Schemes

With the introduction of the free admission policy, NHB School and Tertiary Institutions Membership Schemes which offer free admission for students and teachers from member schools will be discontinued with effect from 1 May 2010.

All schools and tertiary institutions will not be able to renew or apply for the membership schemes starting from 1 May 2010 onwards. Foreign international schools which visit NHB museums regularly may wish to apply for memberships under the individual museums to enjoy discounts.

Reimbursement of NHB Membership Fees for NHB Member Schools

All NHB member schools with membership valid from 1 May 2010 will be reimbursed their membership subscription fees. The reimbursed amount will be pro-rated based on the balanced number of days under their membership. Click here for more details on the Termination of the NHB School and Tertiary Membership Schemes and reimbursement of NHB Membership fees.

During the interim period from 1 to 31 May 2010, schools visiting NHB museums will have to pay the normal admission fees at NHB museums. Please note that schools that are bringing 20 or more students or teachers may enjoy a group discount off their admission tickets, subject to individual museum's policies.

NHB would like to take this opportunity to thank all schools, especially NHB member schools for their support of NHB's School and Tertiary Membership Schemes and education programmes over these years.

We look forward to your continued support of our exhibitions and programmes. We hope that your school will take advantage of this new policy by organising more museum visits and also to encourage your students to visit our museums on their own or with their friends or families.

For any enquiries regarding the new policy of free admission to NHB museums for students and teachers, or the termination of the NHB School and Tertiary Membership Schemes and reimbursements, please contact Ms Tan Bee Leng at 6332 3550 (email).

Thank you.
